Hello and a warm welcome to the Institute of Translation and Multilingual Communication (ITMK) at Cologne University of Applied Sciences (CUAS). We are delighted you’re about to begin your study program at our institute. Because we know how difficult making preparations for a foreign study year can be, we’d like to offer a little help. Studying at the ITMK in Cologne Studying at the ITMK in Cologne A further document for downloading is “Studying at the ITMK in Cologne”. We recommend that you read it especially carefully, as it provides important information about studying at the ITMK, university formalities and procedures as well as how to find and take accommodation. In addition, there’s information about student life in Cologne – including some useful addresses and ideas about leisure activities. We hope the documents will answer many of your questions in advance of your arrival and will whet your appetite for your stay over here. We hope you enjoy reading it! Terms and dates winter semester 2009/10 A registration session for students from UNF/DUFE/WU (this is optional) will be organised on October 8, 2009 at 09:00 am (meeting point: porters´lodge in the entance hall of Mainzer Str. 5). Your study program will start with an orientation meeting on October 9 at 10:00 am (Mainzer Straße 5, room no. 211, 2nd floor). A two-days workshop in “Intercultural Basics” will take place on October 12 and 13 in Bonn. (Attendance is compulsory, for details please see below) Lectures will start on Wednesday, October 14. Classes in Cologne end on January 29, 2010. At the right on this page you will find a “Travel Schedule for 2009/010” which provides the dates on which all students must be in each location and the earliest possible date of departure. Workshop "Intercultural Basics" 2009 On October 12 and 13 a workshop called “Intercultural Basics” will take place at Haus Venusberg (please find course information at the right on this page). The whole MA group will stay the night from the 12th to the 13th at Haus Venusberg. This will be a very good opportunity to get to know each other since you will study together for the next 15 months. Board and lodging will be provided. Student Information - Notice Boards Up-to-the-minute information about course changes, re-scheduling/cancellation of lectures, supplementary events etc. are published on the notice boards on the 3rd floor at Mainzer Straße 5. You are strongly advised to look at these boards regularly. Each notice board is numbered and notice board 17 contains dedicated information about the M.A. program. Personal Counseling
Prof. Dr. phil. Lothar Cerný M.A. How to Find Accommodation in Cologne All students have to look for accommodation on their own, since CUAS has no means of arranging accommodation for any student. Therefore we put together useful information and hints on how to find accommodation in our brochure “Studying at the ITMK in Cologne” (see downloads at the right on this page). Important notice: If you apply for accommodation in a hall of residence at the “Kölner Studentenwerk” and you receive an offer, please make sure you accept the offer by the option deadline!!! Otherwise the room will be offered to someone else!!! If you have not received an offer 4 to 6 weeks before the start of the rental period, please inquire at the “Kölner Studentenwerk”, Ms Emexidis (, phone: +49 221 94265 225). If the “Kölner Studentenwerk” has no vacancy (which is likely to happen), you have to look elsewhere. The hints in our information brochure hopefully will be helpful to you.
